On approximation of Markov binomial distributions

چکیده
For a Markov chain X = {Xi, i = 1, 2, . . . , n} with the state space {0, 1}, the random variable S := ∑n i=1 Xi is said to follow a Markov binomial distribution. The exact distribution of S, denoted as LS, is very computationally intensive for large n [see Gabriel (1959) and Bhat and Lal (1988)] and this paper concerns suitable approximate distributions for LS when X is stationary. We conclude that the negative binomial and binomial distributions are appropriate approximations for LS depending on VarS greater than and less than ES respectively. Also, due to the unique structure of the distribution, we are able to derive explicit error estimates for these approximations.

A continuous approximation fitting to the discrete distributions using ODE
The probability density functions fitting to the discrete probability functions has always been needed, and very important. This paper is fitting the continuous curves which are probability density functions to the binomial probability functions, negative binomial geometrics, poisson and hypergeometric. The main key in these fittings is the use of the derivative concept and common differential ...
متن کاملCharacteristics of the Temporal Behavior of Entanglement between Photonic Binomial Distributions and a Two-Level Atom in a Damping Cavity
In the present study, temporal behavior of entanglement between photonic binomial distributions and a two-level atom in a leaky cavity, in equilibrium with the environment at a temperature T, is studied. In this regard, the master equation is solved in the secular approximation for the density matrix, when the initial photonic distribution is binomial, while the atomic states obey the Boltzmann...
متن کاملSpatial count models on the number of unhealthy days in Tehran
Spatial count data is usually found in most sciences such as environmental science, meteorology, geology and medicine. Spatial generalized linear models based on poisson (poisson-lognormal spatial model) and binomial (binomial-logitnormal spatial model) distributions are often used to analyze discrete count data in which spatial correlation is observed. The likelihood function of these models i...
متن کاملPART ONE 1 Prior and Likelihood Choices in the Analysis of Ecological Data
A general statistical framework for ecological inference is presented, and a number of previously proposed approaches are described and critiqued within this framework. In particular, the assumptions that all approaches require to overcome the fundamental nonidentifiability problem of ecological inference are clarified. We describe a number of three-stage Bayesian hierarchical models that are f...
متن کاملExpected Duration of Dynamic Markov PERT Networks
Abstract : In this paper , we apply the stochastic dynamic programming to approximate the mean project completion time in dynamic Markov PERT networks. It is assumed that the activity durations are independent random variables with exponential distributions, but some social and economical problems influence the mean of activity durations. It is also assumed that the social problems evolve in ac...
